HOW IT WORK
Write about things your friends already like: Think about what you have in common with your Facebook friends. Taste in music? Sports? Bacon? Post your favorite music video in a genre you and your friends love. Make a bold prediction about your favorite sports team. Post an enticing bacon recipe with an eye-catching picture.
Write to be funny: Possibly the top reason people use the internet today is to be entertained, namely, to get a quick laugh. Hopefully a minimal amount of you disagree with this. Write about a silly observation or experience that occurred during the day. Some of you might say "but Hank, I'm not funny and funny things never happen to me." Yes, you are and yes, they do. Haven't you every thought during a point in the day "Why can I wear a sock on the other foot but not a shoe?" or "Don't these pigeons know how much this new car cost?" There's your likable status, or at least the seed of a great humorous Facebook status. Keep trying this option if it doesn't work the first time. Humor is a muscle, a very hilarious muscle, that works the same on Facebook as it does in real life.
Write for a personal good: This goes along the lines of achievement, but this option is for when you're not necessarily shooting for maximum likes. Here you can tag your friends and reminisce over the time you got hit by a foul ball at the baseball game last week or when you all tried the Diet Coke+Mentos thing in a parking lot yesterday night. These friends will especially be inclined to like this status, and even other friends of these friends will like it, wishing they were there to participate in your amazing status tale. Inside jokes might work here too, but be careful: the more "inside" the joke is, the less likes you'll get. And don't be too personal; what is and isn't appropriate as a Facebook status is a whole other topic.
